A Dental Assistant’s Story

A Dental Assistant’s Story of Perseverance, Family, and Achieving Dreams

Amairany Moreno is a dental assistant graduate from Merced, California.
Amairany Moreno is a dental assistant graduate from Merced, California.

On April 1, Amairany knew she had accomplished something far greater than earning a diploma. She had proven to herself, her children, and others that it’s never too late to chase your dreams and become a dental assistant.

Amairany’s decision to go back to school wasn’t just about building a career; it was about setting an example for her children. As a mother, she wanted them to see firsthand that obstacles are meant to be overcome and that dreams are worth pursuing no matter where you are in life.

Her advice for students reflects this mindset: “Focus on the goal, not the obstacle.” It’s a simple yet powerful reminder that success often requires shifting your perspective and staying committed to what truly matters.

Finding Strength in Challenges

Amairany’s journey wasn’t easy. English is not her first language, which made returning to school even more challenging. But instead of letting this hold her back, she pushed forward with determination. Her story is a testament to resilience—proof that even when the odds feel stacked against you, perseverance can lead to incredible achievements.

Her vulnerability makes her story relatable to anyone who has faced barriers in their own life. Whether it’s juggling responsibilities as a parent or overcoming personal challenges, Amairany’s journey reminds us that success is possible when you stay focused on your goals.

The Milan Institute Student Experience

Amairany looks back at her time at Milan Institute with fondness. She didn’t just gain knowledge. She gained friendships and unforgettable experiences. Her favorite part of the program was practicing on real patients during her externship, where she got hands-on experience that prepared her for the real world.

This practical training gave her confidence and made her feel ready to step into her new career. Today, Amairany is working at Applegate Dentist—the very place where she completed her externship. She plans to continue growing in her career by completing her licensure and becoming a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).

But Amairany’s story doesn’t end with her personal success. She hopes that by achieving her goals, she can inspire others to believe in themselves and take action toward their dreams.

A Message of Hope for All

Her advice for students is both practical and empowering: “Take the initiative to continue learning outside of the classroom.” It’s a reminder that education doesn’t stop. Education is an ongoing process that fuels growth and opportunity.

Amairany Moreno’s journey resonates deeply with anyone striving for something greater in their life. Whether you’re a parent trying to set an example for your children, someone facing personal challenges, or simply looking for inspiration to take the next step toward your goals, Amairany’s story offers hope and encouragement.
