In the Electrical Technician program, students learn:
- Electrician Fundamentals: Foundations and Safety – electrical industry, safety for Electricians, introduction and review of construction math, introduction to electrical circuits, electrical theory, introduction to NEC, electrical test equipment, hand bending, and OSHA standards and requirements.
- Intro to Electrical Construction – basic safety, basic employability, introduction to construction drawings, conductors and cables, residential wiring, and conduit bending.
- Construction Tools and Materials – introduction to hand tools, introduction to power tools, introduction to material handling, basic electrical construction documents, wireways, raceways, and fittings, and alternating current.
- Electrical Systems and Applications – construction math application, NEC application, motors: theory and application, electrical lighting, pull and junction boxes, conductor installation, introductions to basic rigging, and control systems and fundamental concepts.
- Electrical Systems and Components – cable trays, conductor terminations and splices, grounding and bonding, circuit breakers and fuses, overcurrent protection, and distribution equipment.
- Electrical Design and Applications – load calculations: branch and feeder circuits, conductor selection and calculations, practical applications of lighting, hazardous locations, and special locations.
- Electrical Systems and Controls – specialty transformers, advanced controls, HVAC controls, heat tracing and freeze protection, motor operations and maintenance, and medium voltage terminations/splices.
- Electrical Leadership and Systems Management Fundamentals of Crew Leadership – motor calculations, motor controls, transformers, and commercial electrical services.
- Electrical Design and Systems Integration Load Calculations: Feeders and Services – healthcare facilities, standby and emergency systems, basic electronic theory, voice, data, and video, and fire alarm systems.
