Shelbie O’Gorman – Medical Assisting Graduate, AmarilloShelbie O’Gorman decided to return to school to prove to herself that she could accomplish anything, despite doubts from others. Through hard work, patience, and determination, she successfully completed the Medical Assisting program at Milan Institute in Amarillo.
Shelbie describes her experience at Milan as nothing short of amazing. She credits the mentors and classmates who supported her throughout the program and helped her overcome challenges. One of her biggest obstacles was commuting from Pampa to Amarillo each day, but she stayed committed and pushed through to reach her goals.
Today, Shelbie works at Amarillo Medical Specialists, where she continues to grow in the medical field. One of her favorite memories from school was participating in mock injury simulations in the lab, which gave her valuable hands-on experience and insight into patient care.
Looking ahead, Shelbie plans to continue her education and further build her career in healthcare. Her advice to future students is empowering: “Keep your head high. One bad grade doesn’t define you—don’t let doubt stop you.”
Future Healthcare Professionals Scholarship
Available for: Allied Health programs
Eligibility: Must have a GED or high school diploma, and submit an application with an award letter.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Apply and enroll by March 31

The Massage Therapy course can be completed in 34 weeks, or around 8 months. The total time a course takes depends on your schedule and the completion of your coursework.
Once you have finished classes, you will be ready to take your state licensing exam.
Not only will you learn Massage Therapy techniques in the classroom, but you’ll also gain real-world experience working with real clients in our on-site student spa.
The Medical Assisting program at Milan Institute provides the technical and practical skills training you need to enter the healthcare field as a Medical Assistant.
