A Week of Advanced Learning and Collaboration at Milan Institute’s Esthetician Program in Bakersfield
At Milan Institute’s Bakersfield Central Campus, the Advanced Esthetics class enjoyed a dynamic and engaging week packed with hands-on learning and cross-department collaboration.
During the Advanced Spa Treatments module, students dove into the connections between anatomy and skin care such as
- The Cardiovascular System: Understanding how heart and blood diseases can serve as contraindications for certain treatments and impact skin health.
- The Lymphatic System: Exploring the benefits of lymphatic drainage through gentle, rhythmic facial massages, which help reduce puffiness and improve circulation.
- The Skeletal and Muscular Systems: Reviewing prior lessons with the help of “Mr. Bones,” the skeleton model from the Massage Therapy department.
“We’re so grateful to Miss Altrovese Morrison and Mr. Gilbert Mares in Massage Therapy for sharing their anatomy models with us,” said instructor Saffron Villaryo. “The students loved it, and it brought a whole new dimension to their understanding of the human body.”
Students also practiced extraction, microcurrent, and HydroFacial treatments on models from the barbering, manicuring, and cosmetology programs. This collaboration allowed students from different disciplines to share ideas, network, and experience treatments firsthand.
“Partnering with other departments has been an incredible opportunity for our students,” Villaryo added. “Not only does it enhance their skills, but it also fosters a sense of community and teamwork.”
