On a warm Saturday morning in Las Vegas, inside the halls of Child Haven, something quietly transformative unfolded — not just for the teens preparing for prom, but for the future professionals who showed up to serve them.
Students and staff from Milan Institute Las Vegas gathered on May 16, 2026, for a community outreach event that blended cosmetology skills with compassion. The goal was simple: help teens in the Child Haven system feel confident, celebrated, and seen as they prepared for one of the most memorable nights of their young lives.
For some of the teens, it was more than a makeover. It was their first time receiving professional beauty services.
“This Saturday, we had the honor of going to Child Haven to help get the teens ready for their prom ball,” said Campus Director Melissa Martinez. “The students who did show up truly represented Milan in the best way.”

“A special thank you to Donyale, Samantha, Iosha, Roselyn, and Zakaria,” Martinez shared. “They were a small but mighty team, and the leadership, teamwork, and heart they showed were absolutely beautiful to see.”
When unexpected gaps arose — including the absence of nail technician students — the team adjusted without hesitation. What could have been a limitation instead became a defining moment.
“I also want to recognize Ms. Kim, Juan’ya, Chrystal, and Vivian for being so hands on with this event,” Martinez said. “When we did not have nail tech students show up and the teens wanted their nails done, Vivian did not hesitate. She jumped right in, and then our Cosmetology students and Ms. Kim stepped in to help finish. That is the Milan spirit.”
In that moment, cosmetology became more than technique. It became service.

“Watching the teens smile, open up, and feel beautiful and confident as they prepared for prom was such a touching experience,” said Vivian Johnson, who participated in the event. “Moments like these remind us why what we do matters so much.”
