Milan Institute Now Offers Barbering Program at Texas Campuses

Milan Institute and Milan Institute of Cosmetology specialize in offering career training programs to prepare students for careers in the beauty and healthcare fields. The Barbering program is ongoing at select California campuses, and will now be offered at three Texas campuses. The Barbering program will begin at the Milan Institute of Cosmetology – San Antonio – South, Milan Institute – San Antonio-Ingram, and Milan Institute of Cosmetology – El Paso campuses on May 1, 2023. Enrollment for the Barbering program at these Texas campuses is open now!

At Milan Institute of Cosmetology – San Antonio-South, the Barbering program has been approved by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences (NACCAS). Students at the San Antonio-South campus can choose between a morning/afternoon program or an evening program; both begin 5/1/23.

At Milan Institute – San Antonio-Ingram, the Barbering program has been approved by the Council on Occupational Education (COE). Students at the San Antonio-Ingram campus will have the option of enrolling in either a morning/afternoon program or an evening program. Both begin on 5/1/23, and an additional morning/afternoon program will begin 5/31/23.

At Milan Institute of Cosmetology – El Paso, the Barbering program has been approved by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences (NACCAS). Students at the El Paso campus may choose to enroll in a morning/afternoon program or an evening program. The morning/afternoon program will begin on 5/1/23, and the evening program will begin on 6/5/23.

Barbers specialize in the practice of hairstyling, beard shaving, and trimming. The Barbering program at Milan Institute and Milan Institute of Cosmetology is designed to provide students with the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary for entry-level positions as a Barber or in a related career field. Students receive the practical training needed to provide hairdressing, hairstyling, and shaving services.

Specifically, students in the Barbering program learn:
 – Hairstyling Services – arranging, blow drying, cleansing, curling, dressing, hair analysis, shampooing, waving, and non-chemical straightening, and hair cutting, including the use of shears, razors, electrical clippers and trimmers, and thinning shears, for wet and dry cutting.
 – Chemical Hair Services – coloring, straightening, waving, bleaching, hair analysis, predisposition and strand tests, safety precautions, formula mixing, and the use of dye removers. – Shaving and Trimming of the Beard – preparing the client’s hair for shaving, assessing the condition of the client’s skin, performing shaving techniques, applying aftershave antiseptic following facial services, and massaging the face and rolling cream massages.
 – Professional Development – communication skills, personal and professional ethics, customer service skills, client communication, decorum, record keeping, client service records, rules and regulations, job readiness skills, and employment-seeking strategies.
 – Disinfection and Sanitation – procedures to protect the health and safety of clients as well as the technician and proper disinfection procedures for equipment used in establishments.
Health and Safety Considerations – anatomy (hair/skin/nails), chemistry and chemical safety including, protection from hazardous chemicals and preventing chemical injuries, preventing communicable diseases, electricity and electrical safety, and State Board Laws and Regulations.

The Barbering program at Milan Institute and Milan Institute of Cosmetology’s Texas campuses is a 1000-hour program, designed to be achievable in as few as 34 weeks.
