Financial Aid Tips

Stay Ahead with Your FAFSA

If you’re a current Milan Institute student using federal financial aid, it’s important to understand how your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) works. Each FAFSA form is only valid for one academic year, running from July 1st to June 30th of the following year. For example, the 2024-2025 FAFSA covers classes and expenses from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

Why This Matters

Financial aid is applied as you complete your program hours. If your courses or program extend beyond June 30, 2025, your financial aid will need to come from the next year’s FAFSA form (2025-2026). If you don’t submit the new form, you could be responsible for paying your tuition and expenses out of pocket until your financial aid is processed.

To keep your aid uninterrupted, remember this phrase: “Out with the old, in with the new.” Each June, make it a habit to check in with your financial aid advisor. They can help you confirm that your FAFSA is up to date and guide you through submitting the new application if needed.

FAFSA Renewals or Cross-Over

Staying on top of your FAFSA renewals ensures you won’t face unexpected bills or delays in your education. Mark your calendar for June and reach out to your financial aid advisor with any questions. Being proactive now can save you time, stress, and money later.

Keep your financial aid on track and focus on your studies. Your future self will thank you!
