The program will include current heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration knowledge, demonstrations and technical practice of related skills.
Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training, you will gain the necessary skills to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of HVAC-R equipment commonly found in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

In the HVAC-R program, students learn:
- Math, System Design and Building Management – trade mathematics, basic electricity, building management systems, construction drawings and specifications, heating and cooling system design, OSHA standards and requirements, and EPA Section 608 certification focus.
- Construction Math, Safety, and Refrigerant Handling – introduction and review of construction math, basic safety, introduction to coding, introduction to cooling, and basic copper and plastic piping practices.
- Tools, Techniques, and Safety – trade mathematics, introduction to hand tools, introduction to power tools, introduction to material handling, alternating current, refrigerants and oils, introduction to heating, and introductions to basic rigging.
- HVAC-R Installation Techniques: Soldering, Piping, and Heat Pumps – soldering and brazing, basic carbon steel piping and practices, introduction to air distribution systems, compressors, heat pumps, and troubleshooting heat pumps.
- HVAC-R Systems Installation, Duct Work, Maintenance and Air Flow Dynamics – metering devices, basic maintenance, sheet metal duct systems, fiberglass and flexible duct systems, commercial airside systems, and introduction to hydronic systems.
- Advanced HVAC-R Refrigerant Handling and System Maintenance – leak detections, evacuation, recovery, and charging, fasteners, hardware, and wiring terminations, troubleshooting accessories, and control circuit and motor troubleshooting.
- Advanced HVAC-R Systems: Air Quality, Heating, and Customer Service – air quality equipment, chimneys, vents, and flues, troubleshooting gas & oil heating, commercial hydronic systems, steam systems, and customer relations.
- Retail, Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration Systems – retail refrigeration, commercial/industrial refrigeration systems, troubleshooting cooling, zoning, ductless, and variable refrigerant flow systems, and water treatment.
- Advanced HVAC-R Systems and Leadership – indoor air quality, energy conservation equipment, system air balancing, system startup and shutdown, alternative and specialized heating and cooling systems, and fundamentals of crew leadership.
Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared for entry-level positions as HVAC-R Technicians in the commercial, residential, or industrial refrigeration and heating industry.
